In many Karachi neighborhoods, 14 to 15 houses collectively manage their own security through monthly contributions handled by a few volunteers.
The setup works, but imperfectly. Residents move in and out, payments vary, reminders get buried, and tracking lives across WhatsApp and Excel. Over time, reconciliation becomes manual and error prone.
For a long time, this was tolerated. In my parents’ neighborhood, the inconsistencies eventually became frequent enough to matter.
At the same time, the cost of building small software dropped. AI assisted development tools made it easier to move from idea to execution, shifting the focus from waiting for perfection to shipping and iterating.
The result is Aegis 🛡️ , a progressive web app that residents can install directly from their mobile browser.
It introduces a clear monthly billing cycle at a household level and removes ambiguity from collection status.
The real shift is reminders.
Push notifications replace group wide WhatsApp nudges. Moderators no longer need to disturb everyone or call out individual households publicly.
The app is now rolling out to residents. The next iterations will focus on operational gaps already visible, including guard meal rotations, separate shared expenses, and targeted UI refinements based on real usage.
This post is the starting point.
I will share learnings around MVP trade offs, AI assisted execution, UI perfections, and more.
